Developing Story: Dr. Odell Buckenflush is missing!

Dear Editor James David Baker:
First let us recognize and thank you for the great job you did while serving as editor for The Odell Buckenflush Chronicles. By a sad quirk of fate, your recent decision to retire as editor, following the publication of the fifth book in the Odell Buckenflush series timed out well because Dr. Odell Buckenflush disappeared last week while paddling over Cumberland Falls in his solo canoe.

His boat was found in pieces with assorted gear scattered in the Cumberland River where he landed at the base of the falls. His paddling helmet, PFD, and paddle were recovered but at this time no body has been found.

Dr. B’s wife (possibly widow), Lulu Bell was rather relieved when told of Dr. B’s probable demise and said, “He always said he wanted to be ‘sent off’ with a Viking funeral. This way we won’t have to ruin any more boats since no body was found.” Lulu Bell further noted, “This was probably a blessing. Odell had been whining a lot lately about the big knot which had formed on the side of his head. It looked like a big old pine knot. The result was that he never could find a paddling helmet to fit his knothead.”

Dr. B always did say that living with Lulu Bell was like playing in a “tough league.”

Apparently, Dr. B’s knothead condition was common knowledge among his friends. Jon Nitrus, a longtime paddling companion noted that Dr. B had been giving away all of his outdoor gear in anticipation of his epic running of Cumberland falls. But Nitrus conceded that it was possible that Dr. Odell Buckenflush had indeed, kicked the bucket. Mike Oldnose, another longtime Buckenflush friend noted, “Dr. B was a legend in his own mind and if there was a way to go out and make a big splash while doing so, Dr. B would take the plunge.”

When informed of his father’s passing, oldest son, Jayrell Buckenflush immediately turned defensive, saying, “He made me tie him in the canoe!”

Tyrell Buckenflush, Dr. B’s youngest son, denied any assertion of suicide or foul play or that his father was even dead when he stated, “Dad Buckenflush ain’t dead.  He’s just floating on downstream. His legend will never die.”

Book number 5 and the final volume in the Odell Buckenflush Chronicles is now available on Amazon and wherever fine bathroom reading may be found.
